You’ve donated and convinced your friends to donate, but you want to help NaNoWriMo and the Office and Letters and Light out some more, but how?
You want to help fundraising, but where do you start? What do you do? How do you do it?
Here are some ways you can help NaNoWriMo fundraise.
Write personal letters, emails, and make phone calls to your friends, colleagues, and family. A weekly Facebook post will be ignored. A mass email with a link to your stay classy webpage will probably be ignored. Dear Uncle John, I’m writing a novel and I think you should too. – You just got Uncle John’s attention.
Set a number of goals of letters per week. If someone doesn’t donate follow up a couple weeks later. Sometimes people meaning to donate forget and need a gentle reminder. So follow up!
Don’t like sending emails asking for donations. You can always provide a little incentive by selling stuff.
Do you knit? Are you an artist? Do you have a novel? Buying candy and snacks in bulk and selling them at your office is another option. You can also have a bake sale!
NOTE: You cannot sell anything with the words “NaNoWriMo” or the NaNoWriMo logo — they are copyrighted by NaNoWriMo.
Have a Fundraising Event
Organize a fundraising event. Several restaurants, like Wahoo’s, will split proceeds for an organized event. Some bars will do this too, and the profits on drinks are larger. Car washes are also great ways to fundraise.
If you are organizing a fundraising event, email us at nanolosangeles (at) gmail.com, and we will gladly help you promote your event!
You can get friends and family to sponsor your novel-writing month through StayClassy.org. All proceeds from sponsorships go to NaNoWriMo’s parent 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the Office of Letters and Light, to pay for the Young Writers Program and adult main program.
Visit the NaNoWriMo Sponsorship page for more information.
You can also help NaNoWriMo fundraise by using GoodSearch. Each time you use GoodSearch to it donates a penny to the charity of your choice (NaNoWriMo).
All you need to do is install the toolbar and search directly from your browser.
You can also help OLL by shopping through GoodShop.
If you sell things on eBay, you can select to give a percentage of the sale to the Office of Letters and Light. OLL is a registered charity on ebay, so you can just pick them from the list.
